Temperature

Sansevierias are quite tolerant of fluctuating temperatures than some other plants and are also happy down to around 10°C. This makes them perfect for conservatories and porches that may experience more of a temperature range than other rooms in the home.

Sunlight

Sansevierias are best placed in bright indirect light, but can also tolerate lower light areas. Plants in bright light will grow a lot quicker than those in a lower light area, so where you place your Sansevieria depends on how you want your plant to progress.

Humidity

Sansevierias are not too fussy about humidity and can usually thrive in normal household humidity levels. Damp bathrooms that struggle to clear steam from the shower may be slightly too humid for them but otherwise they are suitable for most rooms.

Watering

Being native to Africa and southern Asia, they naturally prefer being in a dry growing medium. Allowing the soil to dry out almost completely in between watering is the best way to keep your plant happy. If they are in bright light, they will need watering more than one in lower light conditions.

Common Problems

Sansevierias have less problems than a lot of other houseplants but they are not impervious to distress! The most common issue is the leaves becoming soft and mushy - which is often caused by overwatering. Removing any soft leaves and allowing the soil to dry completely will allow your plant to make a recovery - you can also try moving to a brighter spot if it is in lower light.

If Sansevierias are stressed (usually through under or overwatering) they can sometimes suffer from spidermite or mealybugs. With treatment these will make a good recovery as these pests aren't that obsessed with them.
